Between 1994 and 1996, the Annual iEARN Conference was primarily for educators. However, in 1996, students working on iEARN projects requested a chance to meet as well. Ever since then, the Annual iEARN International Youth Summit has been taking place every year concurrently with the Annual Teachers Conference.
In the year 2000, the Fourth Annual Youth Summit will take place in Beijing. Students are warmly invited to present workshops on how they are using telecommunications in educational, action/service, and leadership projects. These workshops will be part of the general program so that educators and youth will also have the opportunity to participate in each other’s workshops.
Just as importantly, youth will work together to exchange and share ideas about how to organize themselves, define goals and strategies, design new projects, and strengthen their roles as youth leaders through educational telecommunications. There will be broad opportunities for students to gain technical and Internet/WWW skills and other telecommunications skills. Students will also have activities for socializing, recreation, and exploring the local area.
